In ancient magic and ritual practice special inks were used to create powerful inscriptions. These inks and their applications are preserved in ancient Egyptian and Greek ritual manuals. The descriptions vary in detail and length and range from a simple “take myrrh ink” to complex ingredient lists and up to information about the individual preparation of these ingredients.
In this video I provide an overview of the ancient sources telling us about magic inks and how these inks were made and used in Graeko-Egyptian magic.
